Constructive tool means general purpose tool that can be used for manipulating information. Manipulating here means using the prior knowledge that one has to construct the new knowledge. It is very important to be used to in classroom because it enhances active learning in the classroom.
From today's class I learned about what, why and how about constructive tool. From my opinion constructive tools are any tools that helps in constructing knowledge among the learners. As the example given by our tutor of using different types of resources such as men power, cements and steel to construct the building we need to use various tools such as LMS, multimedia software, social media sites and simulations to construct the knowledge about certain topic among learners.
We as a future teacher needs to use constructive tools in our classroom because it enhances brainstorming and visualization among students thus leading to critical thinking and independent learning. It also helps learners to build new knowledge in fun ways. We can include constructive tools in various ways such as using simulation lessons in the classrooms, using various software to teach lessons and using publishers to create fun and interactive designs.
Some of the advantages of using constructive tool in classroom as stated by our tutor includes it helping to enhance creativity and thinking skills, learners can showcase their product to the world and also share their thoughts to the world. It also promotes active interactions.
Few examples of constructive tool are desktop publisher that helps learners design attractive posters and cards and google classroom that helps to organize the lesson according to learner's comfort.
However today I am going to focus more on concept map that helps learners brainstorm and to visualize understanding of concept in easier forms as shown below, the concept of river.
I have created a concept map using Cmap Cloud to teach about river. To use Cmap, firstly we need to open Cmap in google that will lead us to Cmap cloud. Then we have to create an account in Cmap using our email id. Through email we need to activate the Cmap account. Now we need to go to action botttom and press new Cmap. Double click in the screen and now you are ready to make a concept map on any topics.
One of the other constructive tools that is very effective is Camtasia. Camtasia studio that can be used to make video lessons and quick quiz. I have made a video lesson on domestic animals and their sound using Camtasia as an example of constructive tool. The video focuses on recognizing the domestic and its sounds for grade 1 students. I used features of Camtasia such as background music, inserting pictures and transitions in this video.
